CBS, one of the three major commercial networks, were organized in 【S1】______1928 which its founder, William Paley, acquired ownership of a group of 【S2】______radio stations. As the Columbia Broadcasting System expanded-itsoperations, soon become the largest radio network in the United States, it 【S3】______precociously recognized the potential for the rapidly evolved television 【S4】______broadcasting technology. On July 13th, 1931, it began experimentally 【S5】______television broadcasting in New York, and ten years later began regularblack and white week broadcasts over its WCBW TV station in the same 【S6】______city, that became WCBS TV in November 1946. With Television City in 【S7】______Hollywood, CBS launched the industry's first full scale production studio. Today CBS owns television stations, radio stations, and home videoproduction and distribution interests. The CBS Broadcasting Group composed 【S8】______of six divisions: television network, entertainment, sports, news, localtelevision stations, and radio. For most of commercial television history, CBShas been the leader in prime time ratings, having the highest rated shows inalmost every year from the mid 1950s through the mid 1980s. During the late1980s, however, CBS lost its top position from NBC. CBS has traditionally 【S9】______been strong in the TV news area. The network began the first regular TV newsprogram in 1948 with Douglas Edwards as anchor. Journalism legends such asEdward R.
